Following the incident that occurred during the FIBA World Cup qualifier between the Australian Boomers and Philippines in Manila, the Australian Basketballers’ Association (ABA), on behalf of its members – which includes the Australian Boomers – would like to issue the following statement:

“The ABA would like to take this opportunity to strongly condemn the actions that occurred outside of the court, specifically the involvement of officials and spectators, during this incident. They significantly compromised the safety of our players. Our primary concern is the safety and support of our players involved and, as such, the ABA will continue to work with our players to ensure they receive all necessary support and services in this matter.

“The ABA acknowledges that FIBA will review and address the on-court incidents that occurred, via an established review and disciplinary process.  The ABA will support our players through this process to ensure they have access to the appropriate support mechanisms. Until the outcome of this review is determined, the ABA is unable to provide further comment.
