ABPA COVID-19 Hardship Fund

The ABPA has established a $150,000 COVID-19 Hardship Fund to assist players in financial hardship caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Much like the wider community, our members have been affected and some are limited in their ability to access government benefits. This fund aims to provide additional financial support on top of the various other ways the ABPA is assisting members through this challenging time.

How to apply

The ABPA will accept applications until 1 June 2020 and plan to make all payments by 15 June 2020. We will endeavour to process applications within two weeks of receipt. We may elect to conduct a second phase upon the completed of the first phase.

To be considered for the hardship fund, players are asked to review the information on this page then complete an application form providing the COVID-19 Hardship Committee with details of their individual circumstances.

To request an application form, please submit a request at the bottom of this page or email us.

How decisions will be made

The Fund is intended to assist members who are suffering financial distress as a direct result of COVID-19.  This includes:

  • players who are unable to meet their living costs and expenses from available financial resources; and/or
  • players who have limited or no access to government benefits.

It is not intended that the Fund support those members who have available financial resources those whose financial hardship is unrelated to COVID-19. For these later players we have and will continue to recommend they contact an ABPA staff member as we may be able to assist through other resources.

What the fund may provide

The Fund has a limited quantum through which we seek to assist as many players as possible.

As a result, we expect that the maximum grant of assistance will initially be $3,000. Should funds remain after all of the applications have been determined, we may conduct a second round of applications.

The ABPA COVID-19 Hardship Fund is a discretionary fund. That means that the ABPA COVID-19 Hardship Fund Committee has complete discretion to determine whether an application will be granted, and, if so, the amount to be paid. In this way, we will be able to help the players who are most at risk.
